A group of four was camped overnight in a remote riverside campground. About 3 a.m. the witness, sleeping in a vehicle, woke to rustling and watched a large dark figure hunched over the picnic table going through bags and trash from about 15 feet away. Companions in tents heard rustling and grunting. In the morning there was no scattered trash, but a charcoal bag showed marks and some contents missing.
Hikers find footprints, possible nest and hear wood knocks mid-day near Coolin
A group of six hikers on the second day of a trek along Lion Creek found large footprints at a pressed-down nest site with a strong musty odor. The witness was camping overnight with companions on a river sandbar. At dawn he went behind a tall log jam out of sight of camp and saw a large dark creature standing where it could overlook the camp. The creature ran away across the shallow river in a couple of steps and disappeared.

The witness was hiking a loop trail in a nature preserve in the afternoon. After hearing something large move away through the woods, the witness noticed a single large footprint on the hard trail surface and photographed it. A loud crash in the trees overhead then frightened the witness, who left the area quickly.
Possible ongoing activity at a farmhouse outside Torrington
The witness reports ongoing nighttime disturbances at a rural home shared with a spouse. Strange noises begin at dusk and continue through the night, with knocking, dragging and loud thumps on the house and high windows recurring every couple of months. An investigator later noted additional whoops, chatter and wood-knocks from the timber line and cattle becoming agitated late at night. The witnesses state they have never seen the source and no tracks have been found.

The witness was fly fishing with five friends in the evening when the group heard a snap from across the river. The witness claims a tall creature stood up, growled, and trees fell as the group fled to their truck, then saw the creature walking in front of the gravel road watching them. The group later returned and reported finding tracks, broken trees and unusual intertwined structures.

The witness was hiking with a group through a field when he hid by a lone tree after hearing movement and saw a tall dark shaggy figure partly concealed at the wood line about 25 to 30 yards away for about thirty seconds. He became nervous and ran to his companions as loud noise occurred and a tree was reported to fall. Three companions heard the noises but only the witness reports a visual.

The witness was lying in bed in an off-grid camper when surrounding animal sounds went silent. Over about an hour the witness heard a single knock, shed creaking as if pushed, rustling and footsteps on gravel, a possible growl and chewing, and a single whoop with no reply. The next day the witness found a large footprint in the gravel near where the sounds originated and photographed it with a tape measure.

After waiting and approaching the tree line, the same crash-and-rocking sequence occurred with a second tree and then a third. While on the phone, they saw a football-sized rock fly through the air about three-quarters of the way across the swamp and land in the water. The witness and his wife were hiking down from a summit in the morning when they heard non-rhythmic clapping-like sounds about 100 feet away in thicker woods, with walking and branch-breaking noises between the sounds. They stopped to listen for about a minute, then advanced toward the area but found no sound or movement. Further down the trail the witness tried reproducing the sound with tree knocks, rocks, and hand claps, finding cupped hand claps matched most closely.

The witness and her daughter's friend drove past a huge gray-skinned creature standing in a highway ditch with its back to the road. It stayed motionless in the headlights and appeared to be rummaging in trash. The next day the witness and her parents found large footprints with toes in mud and took photos showing a tree bend, an X, rock clacking sounds, and a possible face figure on the ridge.

Two companions camped while hunting for five days near Dillon State Park. On successive nights they heard tree knocks from multiple directions, whistles, whoops, loud yells and screams that approached the camp, growling near the camper, and banging on vehicles in a nearby junkyard. By day they found numerous large human-like footprints in a shallow spillway and on a sandy bank, which they photographed with boots for scale. They reported no visual sighting but concluded the sounds and tracks were from a large, athletic creature.

The witness spent the night in a hammock set a short distance into the woods beside a campground site while his wife slept in a tent. After 2:30 a.m. he heard prolonged branch-breaking sounds around him and a very deep, prolonged vocalization, which seemed to stop when he shone a light and resume when it was off. He retreated to the tent, where both occupants continued to hear breaking culminating in one very loud break. The next morning they found no footprints or broken limbs, only rock piles they noted.
Another possible encounter along Appalachian Trail
The witness was solo camping at a shelter while section-hiking the Appalachian Trail. After spending the evening with a fire and making whoop calls and a wood knock with no reply, the witness went to sleep in the shelter loft. Around 2:30 a.m. the witness was awakened by a loud wood knock immediately followed by a thud interpreted as a tree being pushed over, then silence.
Unidentified sound near Wales, New York (2015)
The witness was geocaching with three children in a rural wooded park on a sunny afternoon. They heard a very loud crashing sound about 25 to 30 feet away and briefly saw a jet-black elongated shape. They found no branch, impact mark, tracks, or other evidence on the soft ground, and the children were badly frightened.
