In childhood, the witness and a companion heard a thumping noise while playing and went to investigate. They saw a large hairy animal squatting nearby using pieces of firewood to dig in the ground. The animal stood up, bared its teeth silently, and walked toward them, causing them to flee into the companion's house. When an adult checked moments later, the animal was gone leaving only disturbed ground.

Over two-week periods in 1992 and 1993, the witness repeatedly heard loud nighttime sounds near a lakeside cabin, described as whistling, chattering, screams and deep thumping lasting one to four minutes.
