The group fled toward a residence while hearing branches breaking, prolonged howling and screaming, and trees being beaten.

Four people sleeping outdoors beside a river were awakened around 2 a.m. by loud screaming from across the river. The source paced the far bank, crossed the river, snapped a fallen log, approached within 10 feet while screaming and giving off a strong odor, then recrossed the river and left up the hill over about 25 minutes. Nothing was seen because it was pitch dark.

At night around the campfire the group heard loud yells from the direction of the dam that seemed to get closer, and counselors sent everyone to bed.
