Elk hunter reports trees being pushed over and vocalizations in the Colonel Bob Wilderness
On opening day of elk season the witness camped alone on a remote spur road after hunting all day. After dark he struck a tree with a limb, then heard a large tree pushed over upslope, primate-like yells and chatter from both upslope and the ravine below, and heavy footsteps. Unnerved by the sense of being surrounded, he packed up and drove out without seeing anything.

The witness arrived before dawn to turkey hunt from a stick blind he had built the prior week. Before daylight he heard mumbling like people talking from in front and to the left. A tall hairy biped then stepped from brush, stood looking north, vocalized, left, returned, and was joined by a shorter female carrying an infant; both then walked west across the meadow and the witness left.

The witness was hunting elk with a muzzleloader several miles north of a ski area as snow began to fall. From a small canyon he heard chimp-like huffing and chattering that seemed to come from three individuals on both sides of the ravine. He tried to see the sources as the sounds kept moving ahead with him but saw nothing, then returned to camp as the storm worsened and daylight faded.

The witness was lying down to sleep at home in the early morning when a series of loud vocalizations was heard from nearby woods. The sounds included a distant deep call, loud siren-like screams, and chattering with tongue-clicking, while neighboring dogs barked during parts of the sequence. The sounds faded and returned as if the source moved deeper into the woods and back before leaving for the last time.

The witness and a companion parked after dark in an observation lot and heard chattering and rock-clacking from a hillside, then approaching bipedal footsteps crossing the lot. The witness repositioned the vehicle to shine headlights and glimpsed a large bipedal figure vaulting a barrier and descending an embankment. Afterward the witness found fresh muddy footprints crossing the road and lot on the same path.

The witness was driving slowly while road hunting in a gated clearcut area before dark. A large black figure stood up about 15 feet away on a steep downhill slope, showed agitated movements and cheek puffing, muttered and then screamed before leaving over a stump downhill. About an hour later the witness returned with two companions and all three heard pounding on trees and mumbled vocalizations before leaving.

The witness and two companions were coming inside from a hot tub when they heard chirping calls from two sources that seemed to answer each other. This was followed by about five minutes of very scary howling and screaming sounds ending with chirps. The family dog reacted fearfully and would not leave the porch. Around 3 a.m. the witness was awakened by extremely loud howling that continued for many minutes and was also heard by the companion. They heard leaves and branches breaking and screaming from all around them and smelled a strong foul odor they did not recognize. Unable to see anything in the darkness without a flashlight, they grabbed their rifles, threw their bags in the car, and left.
