Five people were camping together at dawn when they heard rapid crashing and thrashing through nearby underbrush with snapping twigs. This was followed by a loud, high-pitched scream described as like a woman screaming, estimated to be 30-50 yards away. The group was terrified and left the area immediately.

A young boy resting in the upper bunk of a small cabin heard a strange animal-like call followed by footsteps and rustling outside. The female screamed and fled up the canyon with an unknown fate, while the youngster's body was bagged, netted under a helicopter and flown out. The guest's sister said that in the 1970s she repeatedly heard something bipedal walking behind her house at night. The next morning her son found long reddish-brown hair on a barbed-wire fence where the sounds had been. In later years she has also reported howl-like vocalizations and heavy breathing from the woods and once made a phone recording.

His headlights revealed a huge black figure that jumped up and crossed the road into the woods with remarkable speed. Two lifelong friends were target shooting with small-caliber rifles along a river while a nearby reservoir was filling and flooding caves. After one rifle jammed, they returned to their car when they heard limbs snapping and saw small trees swaying and breaking. They circled back to the riverbank clearing and came face to face with a hair-covered creature standing on a deadfall, which one of them shot multiple times in the chest. The creature fell silent, then revived and ran one way while the two men fled the other, later tracking it and sparking local monster lore.
