At the next phone he met the car's occupants, who said they had hit one creature and then been attacked by another before fleeing with passing motorists.

They hid in grass and watched an auburn-reddish tall creature pick fruit and hold it in its arm, sniffing toward them before walking off. The brother later reported hearing owl-like calls but never seeing it again.

It stood fully upright, walked silently to the clearing edge, looked directly up at the hunter, swayed while staring, sniffed loudly and showed human-like teeth before turning with upper body first and walking away. The cousin was so frightened the cousin could not climb down until companions arrived after dark.
