Two lifelong friends were target shooting with small-caliber rifles along a river while a nearby reservoir was filling and flooding caves. After one rifle jammed, they returned to their car when they heard limbs snapping and saw small trees swaying and breaking. They circled back to the riverbank clearing and came face to face with a hair-covered creature standing on a deadfall, which one of them shot multiple times in the chest. The creature fell silent, then revived and ran one way while the two men fled the other, later tracking it and sparking local monster lore.

The guest's teenage mother and aunt were sitting outside a general store when they noticed a hair-covered figure walking on a ridge by an old sheep pasture. The store owner came out and also watched it. When the mother was young, the family was working in their hillside garden with the youngest child on a blanket at the edge. The grandmother gasped and all looked to see a large black hairy figure standing at the tree line about twenty feet behind the baby, staring. The grandmother brought the children inside, retrieved a firearm, and the figure was gone when she returned to the porch.

The guest's grandfather was sitting on his vehicle eating sardines when a grayish hairy figure appeared and stared for several minutes with only slight swaying. He set the food down, left, and found it gone the next day, then left food there about every two weeks and saw the figure a few times. On the last visit he saw a large black one with a younger one, the large one shaking trees and throwing things while the young one left, after which he stopped going there.
