In the fight the creatures were killed, but the captain and previously missing women and children were found dead and buried.

The party rode for hours and charged a group seen from a hilltop amid a strong smell of decay and a mound of victims. Gunfire and hand fighting left the creatures and their captain dead, and survivors buried the dead.

Long ago before horses, a thirty-foot giant attacked a small village at night, destroying lodges and swallowing several women whole. Eight men tracked him, dug a massive trench, lured him to trip into it, and buried him with rocks and earth until he suffocated. They cut open his belly to recover the women, and his grave is said to be a lone oblong butte.
