The witness was driving alone at night on a highway through the Black Hills when a large dark biped stepped over a guardrail onto the road very close to the car. She saw its shoulders, chest and legs beside the passenger side before it disappeared into darkness behind the vehicle. Frightened, she did not stop and immediately called her fiancé about what she had seen.

The witness was concealed while hunting mountain lion and using a distressed-fawn predator call. From behind, the witness heard repeated knock-like or mouth-pop sounds from two directions, followed by deep mumbling described as an unfamiliar language. The witness saw nothing, moved into the open, then quickly hiked out and has not returned to the area.

The witness was staying alone at cottages beside fields edging forest and sitting outside in the evening. A loud sound described as between a howl and a scream came from the woods to the west and lasted 3-5 minutes. All farm animals reportedly froze and turned toward the sound, which the witness did not recognize from growing up in the area.

The witness was camping alone in a tent in Spearfish Canyon. Late at night he heard a whistle-like sound, a tree-knock sound, and slow heavy bipedal footsteps approaching and passing his tent, accompanied by a strong unpleasant smell. He shouted at the presence and later woke to tree knocks and varied whooping sounds from multiple directions lasting about 15 minutes, and found no sign in the morning.

Months later, after seeing a program about primates using rocks to communicate, the witness wondered if the visit had been by an unrecognized primate.

The witness was driving a straight truck east on a highway near the Missouri River before dawn and saw a dark figure crouched on the right shoulder in the headlights. As the truck closed to about 15 feet, the figure stood on two legs and moved away from the road, appearing as tall as the top of the passenger window. The witness later returned in daylight but found no tracks due to frozen ground, though roadkill remains were present near the spot.

The witness was driving westbound home on Highway 244 when he saw a large, reddish-brown hairy figure standing a few feet off the side of the road. He viewed it in left-side profile for only two to three seconds as he passed, noting its tall lean build, long arms, slouched posture, and thigh hair. When he checked the rear mirror it was gone, and a return visit the next day found only a well-used trail.

The witness, a police officer on midnight patrol, was driving back toward town when he noticed movement in the roadside ditch. Moments later a hair-covered figure ran across the road in front of his vehicle from west to east, visible only from thigh to shoulder in the headlights. He stopped to look but it was gone, and the next morning he found grass impressions showing heel and toes.

After eating in town, the witness drove a dirt road back toward camp in Custer State Park at night. Near the top of a hill, a tall hair-covered figure came down the left embankment, crossed the road directly in front of the truck in a single long step, and continued down the steep slope on the right, dislodging dust and rocks. The witness did not stop, returned to camp, loaded the horse which was uneasy, and left for home.

The witness and a companion had returned to shore after late-night canoeing and were talking by the lake. The witness noticed a tall, fuzzy, person-like figure standing uphill by a pine tree and watched it about 30 seconds before alerting the companion. The companion turned after their friend passed under a light, and the figure stepped behind the tree and vanished without being seen by the companion.

The guest was asleep at his father's house on Hearst Mountain when very loud gibberish chatter woke him from about 10 to 15 feet away outside an open bathroom window. He froze, heard no other sounds or smells, and went back to sleep. No one else in the house reported hearing it, and he later felt it matched recorded Sasquatch chatter.

A family reports seeing an unidentified tall biped around their rural home over four years, usually at night. The creature is described as 7 to 9 feet tall, walking upright with a slight hunch and running too fast to follow. Footprints, hair, possible saliva, blood stains, and snapped small trees were also found on the property. Up to nine family members in three houses have seen it when arriving, leaving, or moving between houses.

In June 1996 the witness was alone minding a soup pot at a vision-quest camp on Bear Butte when she looked toward a ridge about 100 yards away and saw a figure come over the top. Startled, she looked down and then back, feeling a rush, goosebumps, and a tug on her T-shirt as the figure apparently left very quickly and unseen. She announced she was going to her tent and later heard from elders that such sightings around the camp were considered common and good luck.

Looking through the peephole they saw a tiny elderly woman outside, but when the door was opened she was suddenly a football field away. They followed tiny boot prints across a field into the woods for a quarter to half a mile until the tracks abruptly stopped.

Two friends were talking late at night in a farmhouse basement with the windows open when they heard a strange screeching or howl-like sound from a nearby field. They looked out the window but saw nothing, and the sound continued intermittently for about ten minutes. An older man walked him away from the fire toward the cook shack to look into the dark, where they both saw two massive shadowy upright shapes standing at the edge of camp watching. The older man said such beings are drawn to ceremonies to observe and protect, and they remained at a distance without approaching or making sound.
