Late at night while sitting by a nearly out campfire, the witness heard branches breaking at decreasing distances and then very heavy bipedal-sounding footsteps approaching. After waking a companion, both heard a few more steps before the sounds stopped. Nothing was seen because it was dark and the source was in trees. No footprints were searched for the next day.

The witness was driving slowly looking for a fishing spot in mid-afternoon when an animal crossed the road almost in front of the truck. He saw only its back, one arm, and coned head for a few seconds before it disappeared into riverside foliage. After turning around he found a couple of large footprints with a long stride. He described the animal as over seven feet tall, heavily built, with long muscular arms and no visible neck.

Late at night the witness noticed the apple tree at the far corner of the yard shaking violently. After a brief check with a night-vision scope that revealed nothing, the witness looked again and saw the upper portion of a tall, hairy, human-like figure walking toward the creek past tall berry bushes. The figure was backlit by a neighboring porch light, showing a large rounded head on very large rounded shoulders with little neck.

The witness was driving northbound on Sly Park Road before dawn when the high beams revealed a large animal standing on two legs beside the road. The animal dropped to all fours, crossed to the opposite side into roadside brush, then watched the vehicle from the brush where its face was seen close to the passenger window. The witness later estimated its height at about eight feet based on the roadside drop-off and concluded it was not a bear.

The witness and a companion were sleeping in a tent on a hunting trip when they were awakened by five unknown vocalizations from different directions over several minutes. The sounds were described as between a growl and a scream, likened to a higher-pitched seal. Other nearby hunters also heard the sounds and no one could identify the source.

After shining a flashlight in that direction, the witness saw two hairy bipedal figures cross a fence and then ran inside. Relatives then went outside, reportedly saw the larger figure up close, noticed odor and sounds, and the group found large tracks the next day.

Two workers covering illegal OHV trails found unusually large human-like footprints near a meadow during lunch and photographed one. The prints were measured and noted to follow a fence line. Later the same day at another meadow area they found the same type of prints crossing a trail toward rock outcroppings, after which they left the area.

A family staying at a remote pack station heard a high-pitched whooping call for many minutes that seemed to approach and then pass toward a wilderness trail. The daughter went to the access road to meet the caller and saw a large, hair-covered, unclothed being with a long beard, long arms and a big mouth walking quickly past. She said it did not see her and was not vocalizing when seen. The next morning the family found a few possible wide-toed prints in the dust at the spot she indicated.

The witness and four companions camped overnight at Feather Falls campground and went to sleep around 1 AM. Sometime later while still dark, the witness heard rhythmic banging like a large branch struck against tree trunks from two separate distant locations, with patterns repeated back and forth and never overlapping. Companions who heard the sounds attributed them to a woodpecker, which the witness doubted because of the nighttime hour and irregular intervals. No vocalizations were heard.

The witness group was camped in a Sierra County campground and walked to an outhouse at night with a small flashlight. The witness shone the light toward the outhouse area below the trail and saw two red eyes that appeared to crouch down, then quickly returned to camp. A foul odor noticed around the outhouse lessened when others checked shortly after, and the next morning the group found small uprooted trees and no odor, estimating the eyes had been 7 to 8 feet off the ground.

A neighbor's chicken coop was raided at night and the birds were taken whole with no remains left. The witness, who also keeps birds, visited the coop to learn how to reinforce their own enclosure and found wire mesh bent and compressed in a way they felt required great strength. The witness collected hair samples from the scene for analysis, which were later reported to be mountain lion hair.

Two companions were hunting deer on a family property near Pine Mountain when they found a footprint and other tracks near a pine overhang, noticed a localized strong skunk-like odor, and saw a pile of fresh acorns with no oak nearby. As they moved uphill using alternating advances, each heard an unrecognized whistle and the sound of a large boulder rolling, with neither attributing the sounds to the other. Both reported a feeling of being followed uphill.

She heard something heavy run away up a gravel road. Companions camped a short distance away also heard the scream, and one who went outside reported a very strong bad odor, while the witness's dog reacted strongly inside the tent.

The witness was camping with two companions and hiked to a large rock formation in the evening. After feeling watched and returning to camp, the group heard repetitive clinking/banging sounds that seemed to answer from different directions for about twenty minutes. The next morning while packing, they heard the sounds again and the witness tried to mimic them with rocks and wood without getting a clear response.
Family hears late night vocalizations near Lake McCumber
The witness and companions stayed overnight near a meadow at Lake McCumber and heard a strange high-pitched, human-like howling from the meadow off and on between 3 and 5 a.m. Two companions stayed up on the deck listening while the witness listened from bed. No creature was seen. The next morning a fawn without its mother was noticed in the meadow.

Two hikers returning up a dry creek bed in late afternoon smelled a strong foul odor and noticed a dead squirrel placed over a boot print. From a short distance away they heard loud banging like wood striking trees, saw treetops swaying, then heard very loud groaning and screaming vocalizations. The sounds paused while they walked away and resumed when they stopped, until they left the area.

The witness was waiting camouflaged near a creek for wild pigs after sunset. A very large silver-gray biped walked upright along a raised road about 75 feet away, taking several strides through a clearing before disappearing. The witness ran to the road, called out, and drove the area but found nothing, and a next-morning search found no tracks.

The witness was mountain biking on a remote climb when he stopped to relieve himself and heard bipedal footsteps uphill. He saw a tall, long-haired reddish creature take two steps behind a tree about 40 feet away. As he tried to peer around for a better look, a loud growl-roar-scream came from behind him on a ledge, and he fled downhill without looking back.

The witness and two children were reading inside their trailer in the park campground one evening when they heard an extremely loud, unfamiliar echoing vocal sound described as between a cat-call and a moo. The sound seemed to come from across the river despite closed windows, and was louder than human campground noise the witness had previously heard. The witness, experienced with local wildlife sounds, said it matched nothing previously heard.
