They watched a three-foot shadowy figure with distorted light move near a rotted tree and approached it. A deer then appeared between them, bounded toward the road and vanished as the feeling of the area changed and insects disappeared.

On one of their last nights in the house, the witness's wife woke him to listen to repeated high whoop sounds approaching over about 40 minutes. He heard spaced footsteps in leaves outside the bedroom wall within feet of his head while their dog growled. He went to the porch with a gun, heard one more loud call felt in his chest, fired into the ground, and it fell silent.

Early one morning before a deer hunt, the witness heard something strike the metal fuel oil tank like a gong and move through the woods. He shone a light but saw nothing. Later he found no limbs or nut trees that could have fallen on the tank.

A short drive later the same animal shot across their driveway at high speed. The witness's mother called his father to come out with a gun, but nothing further was found that night.
