Elk hunters threatened by deep, angry growl in Jemez Mountains
In September 1998 the witness and a companion were stalking elk in the morning when they heard a very loud, low, powerful growl nearby. The witness, an experienced hunter, said he had never heard anything like it and his companion was very frightened. They stopped hunting for the day and returned to camp without seeing the source.

Two members walked toward the sounds but saw nothing, and a search of the area the next day found nothing unusual.
