Three people had laid out sleeping bags for the night at Kitson Springs when they heard rustling, loud stomping, and prolonged shrieking and howling nearby. They did not see the source and remained still while the sounds continued and then moved up a hillside into the distance. In the morning they made only a brief check and reported no tracks.

The witness was elk hunting alone and stopped by a creek to eat while watching a power-line clearcut. He saw a large dark upright figure cross the clearing, then watched it again through a rifle scope and described a tall hairy human-like animal. After about 20 minutes they heard something breaking limbs while approaching from the ridge and retreated to the truck. While driving to the summit with his wife, the witness noticed a dark figure sitting at the base of a tree that he first mistook for a hunter. The figure stood up, walked across the road behind their vehicle, paused about 30 seconds to look at them, then descended a steep hillside out of sight. The witness estimated it at about 8 feet tall by a nearby tree and described it as massive, dark brown and long-haired with wide shoulders and long arms.

The witnesses then drove to a fork below, spoke briefly with a horseback rider, and later mentioned the sighting in town.

In May 1980 [name withheld] and a friend skied at night up the closed Highway 242 toward Middle Sister to claim the season's first summit entry. They were followed for hours by something screaming, breathing heavily, breaking branches and circling on two legs, forcing them to shelter in a road grader. After it left they found large human-like tracks with toes crossing a creek and in the woods, then abandoned the climb and skied out.

In early-morning darkness and light rain the witness was driving a paper route near Arago when a large reddish-brown long-haired animal crossed the road and scaled a steep grassy roadcut within about 15 feet of the truck. The animal moved very fast with rear legs set wide apart and spine not flexing like a bear, using its front limbs hand-over-hand, showing broad shoulders, a flat-profile face and a part in the wet hair along its spine. It reached the top in seconds and went out of sight.
Camper has night sighting near Crater Lake
The witness was camping with relatives south of Crater Lake and sleeping alone in a tent at night. While lying in a sleeping bag, the witness heard footsteps approach from the wooded side and saw a human-like outline shadowed in a distant campfire glow. The figure bumped the corner of the tent, shaking it, paused as if staring, then moved toward the front where it could no longer be heard on pavement.
