The witness and a friend took their young daughters for a slow drive up a remote logging road to an old bog. After stopping and stepping a short distance from the vehicle, the men heard an extremely loud prolonged roar that rose from low to high and felt it in the chest. They saw nothing, aborted the outing, drove down while scanning the treeline, and the friendship later ended after the friend refused to discuss it.

The witness was hiking upstream beyond a waterfall with two children and stopped to rest on large boulders by the river.
