The witness and two companions were relaxing in an outdoor hot tub at a vacation cabin near Gatlinburg when the woods went silent and tree movement was heard. The witness noticed a motionless black shape resembling a gorilla's head and shoulders in sunlit brush about 100 yards away and watched it for several minutes. After briefly looking away at the cabin wall, he found the shape gone, and shortly after heard trees cracking. He watched for about ten more minutes without seeing anything further.

The witness was hiking with an expedition group near an old building and went behind it to look for sign. About 50 yards away the witness saw a dark shape that resolved into a face with heavy brow, broad nose, dark hair and dark eyes that turned to the side and back before disappearing. Afterward the witness heard whistles and a low guttural sound, felt unwelcome and unwell, waited, then later sketched what was seen.

Residents in a Campbell County community reported a large ape-like primate on the loose over several weeks in autumn 2003. One resident reported seeing the animal at close range, noting a strong odor, and said it threw a kitten toward them. Other reports described a home intrusion with scattered belongings, stool deposits on property, and many missing or dead cats and kittens. Animal control and the sheriff's department investigated and warned residents not to approach the animal.

The witness was driving south at night with relatives in two separate trucks when bright headlights revealed a very large animal in the median. As the truck approached, the creature was seen crouched over what looked like a dead deer and then turned to look toward the vehicle. A companion in the other truck confirmed immediately by phone that he had seen the same thing.

In the early morning the witness was at a rental mobile home property with his wife to check on tenants and let dogs out. The dogs refused to leave the porch while reacting to movement in an adjacent tobacco field. The witness saw a large hunched furred figure with a rounded back in the field and a smaller figure moving away, and heard exchanging chuffing vocalizations and a distressed mewling sound from the field and from across the road near a creek. The figures moved toward tall grass and the tree line, a tree across the road shook as if climbed, a musty odor was noticed, and mashed grass trails were found the next morning.

Two men had finished dredging for gold and were talking when they noticed a large dark creature about 100 feet away partly behind a dead tree and tailings pile. The creature reached up and snapped off a tree limb, looked at them for 10 to 20 seconds while a strong smell was present, then turned and walked into the woods. They stayed in the area for two more weeks with no further sightings but reported smelling it several times.

A couple were trolling slowly by boat up a flooded channel while fishing. The husband saw a dark bulky figure hunched behind brush watching them, while the wife experienced birds going quiet and then saw bushes moving up into the woods as something left quickly. The witness saw an upright light-grey figure at the tree line, first thought to be a teenager in a heavy coat, but noted long hair-like covering and non-human swaying. A figure approached uphill in a zigzag while making stepping sounds and low grunts and growls, then stopped a few feet away at eye level for about 20 seconds. After the witness coughed and waved, the figure turned and walked away bipedally out of sight and hearing.

The witness was deer hunting alone from an elevated stand in early morning mist when a strong musky odor hit. A dark shape circled at about 75 yards for several minutes, moving heavily through leaves and sounding bipedal, before running off. The witness estimated its height at seven to eight feet despite never getting a clear view.

The guest described dogs being attacked over several nights, one killed in a gorge with two puncture wounds and no blood and another badly cut but surviving. Days later a partner taking garbage out saw a very tall ugly figure eye-to-eye from a deck. The witness stopped for a break by a creek in the Cherokee National Forest in the afternoon, smelled a strong musty urine odor and heard a close low grunt. A large black-and-gray upright figure with humanlike facial features watched the witness from underbrush for 1-2 minutes before turning and leaving through thick brush. The witness retreated to a vehicle and later estimated the figure was at least seven feet tall from measuring the standing spot.
