The witness and the witness's mother were driving slowly on a mountain road looking for cattle when the witness noticed movement behind pine trees. They stopped and saw a tall reddish-brown figure standing by a tree, which then turned and moved quickly away into thick brush with long hairy arms swinging. Frightened, they turned the truck around and drove quickly back to the house where they told a relative.

As the truck approached, the creature was seen crouched over what looked like a dead deer and then turned to look toward the vehicle. The witness was walking back from the mailbox in the afternoon when she heard deep man-like grunts and thumping from a brush thicket beside the driveway. She saw part of a large reddish-brown fur-covered animal, hunched over and rubbing or pounding its head or shoulders on trees. When she moved to get a better view, the animal ran toward her growling with heavy footfalls, and she fled to the house as it hit downed trees and stopped at the brush edge.

The witness then saw a long reddish-haired creature squatting motionless near the corner of the house without looking toward them. The witness ran inside to get family members, but by the time they came outside the creature was gone although the strong odor still filled the yard.
