A roughly nine-foot, black-haired, barrel-chested male stepped onto the trail about 30 yards away, made rapid mouth-popping clicks answered from the brush, then growled and changed expression when the witness turned his bike. A second taller individual stood up in the brush showing chest and head, the witness rode about two and a half miles home, and family members dismissed the report as a bear.

The witness was driving north on Illinois Route 4 through a wooded area when they spotted a large upright figure about 50 feet from the roadway for a second or two. The figure was described as very tall, thick and broad with orangish fur. The witness did not stop due to lack of safe parking, and a later site visit found no footprints or other evidence.

The animal stood on two legs and moved away through a hollow with swinging arms, described as having a flat face and long brown-black hair. At close range he described an upright, very large creature with a strong odor that noticed him, grunted, and quickly climbed a hillside and disappeared over a ridge. The vehicle passed within a few feet of the creature, then they turned around to look again. The creature had left the roadside and left a trail of disturbed vegetation and indistinct footprints. They described its size, build, hair, and facial features in detail.
