The witness was in a tree stand when he heard higher-pitched chatter and movement approaching, followed by a grunt, silence, and sounds of two things running downhill. Using his crossbow scope he saw a dark-skinned hand on an oak and then a face peering at him, later stepping into a shooting lane. After he lowered his bow the female left downhill where a loud pop and crashing was heard, and a healthy snapped tree was photographed the next morning.

Two relatives were bass fishing from a small boat when rocks were thrown toward them. After beaching, one threw rocks back, the creature screamed, stepped out, charged and struck one man hard enough to break ribs and puncture a lung, then threw a log that cut his chin. It reappeared swaying and clicking, then leapt a great distance and ran off on all fours. Authorities and later visitors called it a bear and told them to leave it alone.

The witness paddled a kayak in pre-dawn darkness to scout fish and noticed unnatural quiet. After daylight he smelled a horrific odor, heard a powerful scream-growl that shook vegetation, and saw a face behind a palm frond. The creature charged into the water to within about 15 feet while he held up a paddle, stared with a hostile expression, then turned and walked back to the woods.
