The figure was described as covered in long dark brown hair with a lighter patch on the chest and red eyes.

Three children were catching lightning bugs in a pasture at dusk while their grandfather called them from the porch. The grandfather saw an upright figure on a fence line drop to all fours and lope toward the children. He ran shouting, the children froze or fled, and the creature stopped, stood erect, then walked away into cedar trees while watching them.

On a moonlit night in summer 1970, the witness was on a road by a cornfield with a companion when a large brownish creature was heard and then seen running across the road, down a ditch, over a fence and into the cornfield. The creature had a foul smell. The witness returned the next day and found large smudged footprints in the road and cornfield.

The witness, then about seven, was playing outside with her twin sister and two large dogs on a gravel road. The dogs began barking aggressively, and the witness saw a large hair-covered creature step from the woods and walk across the road about 200 feet away. It paused, turned its whole torso toward the children, then continued into the tree line. The frightened children ran to a neighbor's house, and the witness's mother later suggested it was a Bigfoot, which the witness confirmed from a magazine photo weeks later.

The witness describes three years of repeated encounters after his family moved onto a wooded hillside property. Four ape-like animals repeatedly approached the trailers, peered in windows, vocalized at night, left tracks, damaged structures, and killed livestock. The father shot the largest animal in the shoulder near the pump house, after which the animals moved faster and more cautiously but continued the activity. Forestry and law-enforcement visitors reportedly told the father to stop shooting, and timber workers and well drillers also encountered the animals.

While fishing from a boat near shore, the witness smelled a strong musky odor for several minutes, then spotted a tall hair-covered figure partly hidden behind a short tree at the treeline. The figure remained still for a couple minutes, then stood, stepped into the open to look at the boat, and walked slowly uphill into denser forest. A companion in the boat also smelled the odor but did not see the figure.

The witness was driving west over the pass late at night when headlights revealed a tall hair-covered biped coming up a roadside bank on the right. The animal stepped over a guardrail without reacting to the car and walked up the hill as the witness slowed and passed in the left lane. The brief sighting lasted seconds, and the witness concluded it was not a bear or known ape.
Recollection of a daylight sighting while deer hunting near Greenbrier River
In November 1969, the witness and his father were hunting in the morning when the father spotted what he first thought was a bear across a hay field. Both then observed a large brown-haired biped standing at the far fence line for an extended period through a rifle scope and field glasses. The father said he did not know what it was and chose not to shoot, and they returned to camp where he armed himself and kept the witness inside.
