Possible encounter while fishing at Kanapolis Lake
Late at night while fishing at the Kanopolis Lake spillway, the reporter noticed movement on a hill and then a large figure peeking from behind a tree about 150-200 yards away. The reporter and an adult companion watched it peek in and out for about 45 minutes, seeing red eye-shine with and without a flashlight. Near the end, the companion heard a single knock and a 3-4 second high-pitched scream from the figure's area, which the reporter could not hear over the flowing water.
Possible encounter by turkey hunters entering their blinds near McPherson
Two hunters crawled into a turkey blind around 5 a.m. and heard a loud high-pitched scream they did not recognize, followed by a huge crash like a tree falling. Frightened, they loaded their shotguns as fast as they could. They also found the roost trees empty of turkeys that had been present in large numbers a week earlier, which they considered highly unusual.

The witness was playing at the edge of a barn light in a pasture when heavy footfalls were heard from the timber edge. A loud exhale was followed by an extremely loud scream or roar. The witness ran to the house where a parent, who had heard the sound from inside, met them at the door.

The witness was walking ahead of her husband toward a fishing spot at a strip pit when a very loud screaming began just behind her. She crouched and covered her ears as the screams repeated, then heard the source run, jump a creek, and crash through brush and small trees on the far side. Her husband, who had been following behind, heard the screams and joined her to watch the vegetation move as the creature left. They left the area without returning for prints after rain washed the site.
