Early one morning in 1972 or 1973 the witness rode with a relative toward a hunting area when headlights revealed an animal leaving an orchard and crossing the road on all fours. The animal turned its head toward the vehicle, showing teeth, then went into a ditch, stood upright and stepped over a fence before disappearing from view. About 25 years ago on a summer night, the witness was driving north on I-5 south of Bellingham when an animal ran across the freeway from left to right.
