The witness and a relative were camped in a tent on a deer lease near a creek and river in Texas. Late at night they heard distant whooping calls that approached along the water to close range and continued for over an hour, ending with a deep powerful growl while the surrounding woods went silent. The witness reported falling asleep out of fear during the sounds, and no visual encounter was described.
Campers hear loud deep howls near Lake Texoma
Four campers sitting around a campfire at night heard two deep howls from the south, then a higher-pitched howl from the northwest, followed about 20 minutes later by a close whoop. Through the night they also heard brush breaking, grunts around 1 a.m., and noticed a slight odor. A morning search found nothing solid, though exploration toward the first vocalizations reportedly revealed a freshly snapped elevated branch.

He heard a series of loud vocalizations, howls, knocks and gibberish-like sounds from dense brush, with a second individual answering from down a draw. After he shouted a warning and fired a shot toward advancing growls, two unseen creatures charged through the brush chasing him to the road, where they stopped as he fled to his truck.

The witness and his uncle were coyote hunting from a truck when they saw a large orange ball of light maneuvering in the sky and heard a loud electric-motor hum. A deer stumbled from the woods and collapsed then recovered, multiple jets converged on the light, all sound stopped, flashes appeared and the light vanished. They then heard loud tree snapping approaching the tree line and fled, later seeing a fast blue streak of light while driving away.

The witness hiked with three relatives on a quiet day. They heard a tree shaking, distant talking or laughing, then after they made playful calls something very close yelled back and was partly recorded. As they reached the parking lot she heard a hollow rhythmic chest-beating sound.
Partial sighting in Texas (2009)
Two canine handlers were driving separate Tahoes home late at night between Ozona and Big Lake. A large black animal on all fours rushed from the ditch at the lead Tahoe, turned and paced it for 50 to 150 feet at 80 to 85 mph at window height. It lacked a horse or cow-like neck and elongated head, then fell back. The trailing officer saw no detail.

After resting on a bridge over a bayou, the guest felt watched and then sensed something following and flanking them to the right. She heard heavy bipedal steps and raspy breathing, experienced intense fear and silence in the woods, and hurried to the truck without ever seeing the source.

Two people were riding horses in single file a few hundred yards from a corral in the early to mid afternoon. The horses became nervous with ears moving back and forth, and a strong dirty wet-dog odor was noticed. Two closely grown intertwined trees nearby began shaking violently from about five to six feet up, though nothing could be seen between the branches. The riders focused on controlling the startled horses and then turned back toward the corral.

The witness and his teenage son rowed to an isolated wooded shore at night to set off fireworks while family watched from across the water. The witness heard loud huffing and grunting, crashing through brush, and smelled strong body odor approaching in the dense woods. He briefly saw a very large, wide, shaggy human-like silhouette between trees in his flashlight beam. He took his son and paddled away quickly, leaving chairs and fireworks equipment behind.

The witness was walking down a dirt road on company property in deep woods when he heard rustling in brush about thirty yards away and smelled a strong skunk-like odor. After stopping, shouting, and resuming walking to a gate and back, he heard quiet whooping vocalizations from behind that grew louder as he moved away. He did not see the source and first considered wild hogs before later considering something unidentified.

While cleaning a construction office trailer around midnight, the wife stepped outside and saw a tall hair-covered figure watching from behind a tree about 25 feet away. She stared for a couple minutes as it leaned to look around the tree, then ran inside. The couple checked the area with headlights, saw nothing, waited in the dark, and heard whistling and rustling before leaving. In daylight the next day they found nothing that explained the figure.
Man has night encounter at home just outside Sam Houston National Forest
After a storm knocked out power, the witness walked a powerline to check for damage and then headed back toward the house. They noticed blinking eye-like lights high off the ground, smelled a musky odor, and made out a large bulky dark shape in weak flashlight light before running to the house. A short time later the witness returned with a brighter light and companions, saw the blinking eyes again in woods beside the house, then heard movement and a throaty howl as it left.

The witness was awakened by barking dogs and went out with a rifle to check the property. Something rushed past in the dark and the witness fired shots, then resupplied and smelled a strong fecal and wet-grass odor. From a rooftop perch the witness watched a tall dark figure by a school bus that looked toward him, crouched, then ran away, accompanied by strange howl-growl sounds from dogs nearby.

In 2003 the witness went with his wife and children to fish from a dock in a park on the same river system. After hearing loud branch snaps, something ran fast through palmettos straight toward them. He sent his family to lock in the car, quickly packed his rods, and drove away.
Unidentified sound in Texas (2002)
The witness, an infantry sergeant, led a three-person overnight guard of an ammunition holding area in northern Fort Hood. After a chem light disappeared, the woods fell silent and alternated quiet sides, followed by a loud thunk, a cold spot, approaching two-legged footsteps that produced no silhouette, movement into a thicket, and a very large rock striking the ground. The presence appeared to circle the position for about two hours until moonrise restored normal night sounds, and bait set for coyotes remained untouched by morning.

The witness, then 15, was hunting with his father on remote public land in East Texas. On the final evening he heard a loud knock then prolonged screaming directed at him and footsteps circling behind him. A creature stuck its head through brush 20 yards away and stared at him until his father's vehicle approached, when it ran off screaming. He fled, was physically ill for days, and avoided deep woods afterward.

When they returned in the morning to collect belongings they heard a loud wavering scream and fled, later noting broken limbs in the area.

Four people settling to sleep at a deer hunting camp heard a deep grunting animal shuffling behind a tent. Two of them got up with rifles and lights to investigate, and the animal left quickly while grunting and breaking through brush. They never saw the animal and found no tracks the next morning.
