Around midnight something large crashed through brush, rocks were thrown into camp, and loud screaming and growling occurred. The witness was deer hunting alone in the morning when he heard an extremely loud low growling sound from dense cover upslope. He could not see the source even with binoculars, but saw branches shaking about nine to ten feet up and two basketball-sized rocks roll out of the cover toward him. Feeling watched and unnerved, he walked out calmly the way he had come while the sound continued until he rounded a bend in the trail.

In summer 1987, the witness and two companions were resting on a rock after swimming and fishing at a swimming hole on the Gauley River when the area went quiet. They saw a large, dark-brown, two-legged animal standing in a clearing across the river watching them for about two minutes before it left up the bank and out of hearing up the hillside. The next day the witness revisited the spot and judged the animal had been at least seven feet tall.

As a nine-year-old, the witness took a wrong turn while walking through woods toward an orchard and felt watched for an extended time. The witness heard a branch snap and saw underbrush moving without seeing the source, then later found a large footprint near a caution-tape marker. As a young child visiting grandparents in Arkansas, the witness approached a small furry baby crawling near a compost pile by a fence. A much larger creature appeared in light through the trees, pointed between the baby and the child and motioned for the child to come closer. When the child's grandmother called for dinner, the large one blended into the background and additional figures moved away down the fence line.

While walking to a duck blind in the early morning, the witness and companions heard trees snapping and movement in nearby timber. Later, while walking back alone to the truck for shells, the witness again heard branches breaking and movement paralleling him that stopped when he stopped. When he raised his empty shotgun toward the sound, a loud long guttural scream echoed through the trees, which companions back at the pond also heard, terrifying the witness who ran to lock himself in the truck.

In 1987 the witness was deer hunting and camping in eastern Washington. After the group left him alone at a logging road camp, he heard bipedal footsteps approach his tent at night, felt something strike the tent, then heard movement near his car and a log being torn apart in a gully before fleeing by vehicle to the highway. A night or two later he returned with a hunting companion and both heard multiple chattering, tonal and clicking vocalizations from different directions surrounding the camp.

The witness, then a child, was sleeping in the family's A-frame when very loud, high-pitched screams from behind the house woke the household. The father fired a handgun from a loft window and later used a spotlight, hearing something move away upslope but never seeing the source. Similar late-night screams recurred several times over the following week, and daytime searches found broken small trees and a rotten-egg smell but no tracks or other samples. The family moved away within a month.

After about three hours the sounds receded the way they had come, and the group left at first light without finding tracks.

That night they heard a loud splash near their island camp, and at dawn found a very large wet footprint by their canoes before leaving the area.
