Woman hears possible vocalizations in the James A. Reed Memorial Wildlife Area
The witness was photographing along the tree line on the south side of the lake when she heard a close grunting-snorting sound followed by a deep growl without seeing the source. Shaken, she returned toward two fishermen and then left across the dam, photographing a large print in the mud. From the car area she heard the same loud vocalization coming from across the lake where she had been and saw the fishermen hurrying across the dam, after which all parties left.
Possible vocalizations heard by campers on the Current River
The witness and his brother were camping overnight near a river when they heard a loud growl-scream-whistle sound from about 30 feet away in the woods. They quickly lit a campfire and remained at the site for four nights total. They later asked rangers about the sound and checked local animal sounds at home without finding a match.
Partial sighting in Missouri
While driving at night on a back gravel road, the witness passed a large black animal moving on all fours. He did not see its head or ears and said it did not run like a black bear, which he said are not this far north. He did not stop.
