Scientist skeptic has early morning encounter behind gas station near Las Vegas, NM
The witness stopped at a closed gas station around 1 a.m. while driving home and walked behind the building to urinate. He sensed a presence, looked back while returning to his vehicle, and saw a large hairy animal crouched nearby. The animal then stood, moved away rapidly with heavy footsteps, and disappeared toward a treeline as the witness fled to his vehicle.
Possible nighttime encounter by a couple camping in the Jemez Mountains
The witness and a companion were sleeping in their vehicle at a forest campsite. During the night they heard something rubbing against the vehicle, knocking items over, and rummaging around camp, including toppling chairs and a canopy. The companion, while lying down, reported seeing a tall black shape pass the window and leave away from roads. In the morning the chairs were overturned and the canopy was found upside down about 20 feet away, with otherwise little disturbance and no clear prints.

Early one morning while preparing to leave a campground, a couple noticed a large figure standing outside their trailer's bedroom window peering in. The privacy glass showed only a shadowy chest, head and part of an arm, which the companion photographed. When the witness opened a distant door and turned on a light, the figure was gone but quick footsteps were heard leaving down a gravel road. After sunrise they found large footprint-like impressions in the gravel near the trailer.

The witness was driving home at night through a canyon pass when the headlights revealed a tall, big bipedal animal crossing the highway into a gully. The witness repositioned the vehicle to shine light into the gully but could not relocate it, hearing rocks rolling as it moved up. While standing in front of the truck the witness heard a very loud scream/roar described as gorilla-like but higher pitched, which prompted leaving the area immediately.

The witness and relatives were sleeping in a tent at an abandoned family homesite. In darkness the witness heard bipedal footsteps approach, contact and scratch the rain cover and disturb stakes, then heard a second set of footsteps nearby and distant rock-clicking sounds. After triggering a vehicle alarm, a branch broke as something walked away. In the morning the witness found a footprint-like mark, lifted stakes, and bent trees.

About 20 years ago, the witness and a cousin were walking early in the morning toward the paved road to hitchhike to work. From the treeline across the road they heard frightening noises that seemed to follow them, stopping when they stopped and moving when they ran, with branches snapping audible. With no nearby houses for refuge, they flagged down a passing truck and got in.
