Multiple years of wood knocking and primate-like behavior described by a soldier hunting near Manistee
In October 2004 the witness was bow hunting from a stand when gibberish-like vocal sounds and running were heard in the pines. A doe ran in front of the stand staring north, then a short huh sound, silence, deep sniffing and slow deliberate movement with snapping twigs circled to the northeast and east as the doe fled. The source was never seen.

From inside the woods he heard loud branch and log breaking sounds together with strange slurred chatter-like vocalizations lasting a few minutes, then silence. He walked toward the area with bow drawn but could not penetrate the dense brush, and companions hunting elsewhere reported nothing unusual. Decades later he felt the vocalizations matched published Samurai chatter recordings.

Early in the morning before hunting, the witness and a companion heard loud chimp-like calls behind them and then again to the side sounding like multiple animals. On another night with night vision, they saw three pairs of eyes peeking over a woodpile.

Alone on a full-moon night the witness heard whoops from two directions, then alternating knocks and thumps for over an hour. Loud chatter erupted from behind the car in the swamp, followed by a tree fall and final whoop. Next day a fresh snapped tree and viewing window in brush were found.

The witness and a companion were walking a foggy morning trail toward a lake overlook when a heavy object crashed down through the canopy nearby. They then heard fast, childlike chattering from off the trail that continued as they walked. On the return trip they heard the chattering again from farther away.
