As a young scout camping overnight in a tent away from the main camp, the witness lay awake while his tent mate slept. He heard repeated loud vocalizations from a distance that started low, rose higher with a warbling quality, then faded. The sounds continued for about an hour and at times seemed to get closer, while he remained motionless and silent in his sleeping bag.

About seven years earlier, while driving at dusk on a gravel road into the Blue Mountains, the witness came around a bend and saw two tall figures crossing the road in the headlights. The lights reflected yellow from their eyes while low sunlight illuminated their bodies. The witness stopped and got out after they walked into the woods but saw nothing further and found no tracks because the ground was hard.

About 60 to 75 feet ahead, a very large dark-brown furry biped emerged from brush on one side, glanced toward them, then crossed quickly into brush on the other side. Frightened, the family returned to camp, where they noted deep scratches high on a tree trunk that they associated with the animal.
