In August 1978 a 10-year-old camping with family walked alone at dusk to fetch ice. On a muddy road the witness smelled a strong odor and found a single large bare five-toed footprint, then noticed a dark hairy biped 50 to 80 yards away across a stream that walked gracefully into the treeline in a few seconds. The witness ran back to camp, and relatives later saw the same footprint.

A group gathered on a front porch at night heard noises near an old chicken coop and saw two pairs of yellow eyes that appeared to be two feline-like animals in the headlights. A large hairy biped then stepped in front of the animals and lurched toward a car, prompting the group to flee inside and call deputies. The biped later stood outside a lit kitchen window for several minutes while occupants held firearms but did not shoot, then left before deputies arrived, leaving a strong odor.

He then saw two trees being violently shaken and briefly saw a hairy left arm and shoulder between trees. The witness and a companion found long drag marks and extensively damaged vegetation earlier in the day. About two hours later while hiking on the southeast side of a creek, they saw a large dark-brown fur-covered animal sitting on a stump watching them. The animal stood, made a gesture, and walked into the forest. As they descended toward the creek they heard noise and saw a bear with a cub feeding nearby, leaving the witness unsure what was seen.

While mushroom hunting with a child near a creek, the witness noticed movement behind a tree across the creek and then saw part of a dark hair-covered entity, including knee, shoulder and face. The entity moved behind the tree out of view, and the witness left immediately with the child. She later returned with a firearm and found footprints where the entity had stood.

The witness, then a child, spent the day fox hunting with his father and brother and noticed large tracks in the snow. After returning home to unload rifles in the yard, the group saw a very tall brownish-furred creature in the pasture behind the house that first moved on all fours and then stood, touched a fence, stepped over a five-foot fence, and vanished into thicket. A musky odor was noted that day.

Late at night, a young man and his girlfriend were talking beside a parked car at her home when both saw a large hair-covered biped appear under an outside light about 100 feet away. The creature was first crouched, then stood, stared briefly, stepped over a low fence and disappeared into a soybean field while nearby horses were heard running. A next-morning search found only indistinct impressions after rain.

Two companions walking along a wooded driveway in the afternoon heard unidentified tapping sounds and entered the woods to investigate. They found freshly matted grass and a human-like bare footprint with five toes in dried mud. Shortly after, the companion shouted to run as loud timber-breaking crashes and movement occurred in dense undergrowth behind him. The reporter did not see the source, but the companion reportedly saw something about seven feet tall, after which both fled to the driveway.

While camping with relatives in swampy woods, the witness heard prolonged screaming and strange noises through the night that frightened the group. A heavy thud on the side and prolonged pounding on the door were heard, and the friend saw a tall hair-covered figure looking in through a window. The group hid and screamed, called for help, and the noises stopped; prints were found outside the next morning.

Around 2 a.m. on a fall night in 1978, the witness and a relative went to the corral to check on panicked horses, suspecting a bear. They heard something crashing away into brush and found a corral-post tree snapped over with large human-like footprints around its base. They concluded the prints were not from a bear and later wiped them out while telling other family members it was a bear.

The witness took his children sledding along a forest service road, towing a sled behind his truck. After noticing droppings in the road, they found a trail of large bare human-like footprints with five toes leading up a bank. The witness compared his booted foot and stride to the prints, noting a much longer step and deeper impressions, then left because it was getting late and later reported the find to the sheriff's office.

The witness was following a companion on a snowmobile off trail at night when a headlight revealed a tall hairy figure standing beside a small cedar tree with a hand on the trunk. The figure turned its head to watch the riders as they passed very close. The witness left quickly with the companion and returned with relatives the next morning, finding large footprints where the figure had stood.

Late on Thanksgiving night in 1977, the witness was returning home from jogging when he heard a noise in nearby bushes and ran uphill toward his house. He then turned and watched a large figure running along the road before it went over a barbed-wire fence with little effort and disappeared into a field. A deputy later reported finding an unusually large, deep foot-shaped track in gravel.
