Two hikers were descending a road when they heard multiple loud tree knocks, had rocks thrown past them, smelled an intense stench, and one of them saw a dark figure watching. They fled downhill toward their vehicle while using an air horn, heard a loud guttural whoop near the car, and reported being followed for several miles.

The witness was deer hunting alone on a mountainside when he noticed odd upside-down branch structures. He then saw a tall dark bipedal figure about 60 yards away watching him from a tree grove edge. The witness took his family camping on the eastern shore of Cougar Reservoir. In the middle of the night something large approached on two feet from a hill, and he placed himself between it and his family while his partner moved the children to the vehicle. He fired warning shots, experienced distorted hearing and an intrusive thought, then saw a very tall wide black figure stop at the wood line about 12 feet away before he backed to the vehicle and left.

On June 20, 2004 around 2 a.m., the witness was watching TV at home when she noticed a large dark shadow looking in through full-length windows facing the woods. The witness, age 11 at the time, was in bed when a large shadow was cast on the bedroom wall from outside the window for about 20 to 30 seconds. A few minutes later the witness heard the back storage room door being ripped off and sounds of ransacking, including the freezer being opened and heavy objects moved. The next morning the storage room was found in disarray with the door off, faint scratches without tool marks, and frozen foods missing.

The witness was resting by the Des Plaines River during a bicycle ride when a hair-covered creature was seen across the river splashing in the water. After the witness coughed, the creature threw large rocks toward the witness, then crossed the river silently and confronted the witness at close range. The witness fled along a trail while hearing a loud howl and screaming and seeing additional shadowy figures across the river.

As a young teenager bringing cows across a canal near dark, the diarist saw a large bear-like figure standing on hind feet by a sapling 600-700 feet away and felt intense chill. Cows were undisturbed and his father was unconcerned. Next morning with his friend [name withheld] he found a huge bare footprint in wet mud under the sapling, estimated 8.5-9 feet tall using [name withheld]'s height, and nearby found a stick-bed with a strong repulsive odor.
