Hikers find footprints, possible nest and hear wood knocks mid-day near Coolin
A group of six hikers on the second day of a trek along Lion Creek found large footprints at a pressed-down nest site with a strong musty odor. After leaving the site they heard three tree knocks from shifting locations and sticks breaking. Follow-up documented nest size, track spacing and depth, and track photos.
Daytime encounter by two people near Rock Creek Road
The witness and a younger relative parked and hiked toward a beaver dam meadow. The relative heard knocking sounds and then saw a tall hunched hair-covered figure with striking yellow eyes watching from the treeline, while the witness smelled a strong odor and the dog barked and kept looking back. The group walked back to the truck without running while hearing twigs snapping behind them, and later wondered if they had disturbed the animal while feeding.

As a young teenager bringing cows across a canal near dark, the diarist saw a large bear-like figure standing on hind feet by a sapling 600-700 feet away and felt intense chill. Cows were undisturbed and his father was unconcerned. Next morning with his friend [name withheld] he found a huge bare footprint in wet mud under the sapling, estimated 8.5-9 feet tall using [name withheld]'s height, and nearby found a stick-bed with a strong repulsive odor.
