The animal charged on all fours, killed a hog with blows, then carried it off while exchanging whooping calls with another unseen individual. It paused to stare at the witness before leaving. A hunting partner nearby heard the attack scream and whoops.

The witness, then about 11, went with his father to a surveyor's home in deep East Texas and followed the surveyor's young son down a thin trail behind the house to a deadfall. The son gave whooping calls, after which the witness heard approaching footsteps, heavy breathing like a horse, a deep word-like vocalization and a powerful percussive sound, then breaking limbs. The witness fled back to the house as a tall dark figure ran alongside through the brush, stopping when he screamed for his father.
