In the morning the coolers had been ransacked, and the pair left the campground early the next night after feeling uneasy.

Three youths hunting squirrels with slingshots encountered a tall, dark-haired human-like animal about 15-20 yards away and watched it for about two minutes. The animal shifted position and made a cough-like vocalization, after which the youths fled to a camper. The witness, then about 11, went with his father to a surveyor's home in deep East Texas and followed the surveyor's young son down a thin trail behind the house to a deadfall. The son gave whooping calls, after which the witness heard approaching footsteps, heavy breathing like a horse, a deep word-like vocalization and a powerful percussive sound, then breaking limbs. The witness fled back to the house as a tall dark figure ran alongside through the brush, stopping when he screamed for his father.

Livestock on surrounding farms were found dead with intestines removed. After the father fired through a wall at one creature, only the smaller one was reportedly seen, and activity lessened after relatives guarded the house and a protective ritual was performed.

The creature approached, squatted to strip and eat leaves, noticed the witness, vocalized, and walked away into timber, later appearing briefly on a distant ridge. The witness considered shooting it for science but refrained, then examined droppings and a bedding spot.

The next morning he found a barbed-wire fence broken down with nails pulled out but found no tracks or hair.
