Sticks were thrown as the group retreated, and the witness briefly saw a very tall hair-covered biped peering from behind a large tree before running out scared. The initial report of something big was brushed off until similar local reports months later prompted detailed questioning.

The witness was sitting outside at night talking on the phone when she heard movement in nearby woods and then noticed a strange odor. She looked up and saw a very large, hair-covered figure standing in a field about 30 feet away. The next morning she and a relative found flattened grass, clearings, and tracks leading into the woods but were too frightened to follow them.

They saw an upright figure down a trail, watched it kneel in palmettos staring at them for many minutes, then saw it stand and cross the trail followed by a smaller similar figure into dense brush. They later found two footprints larger than the witness's foot.

The dogs refused to leave the porch while reacting to movement in an adjacent tobacco field. The figures moved toward tall grass and the tree line, a tree across the road shook as if climbed, a musty odor was noticed, and mashed grass trails were found the next morning.

The reporter woke about 3 a.m. and saw a tall black figure walking up the road near a street light, noticing a dead-like odor. After it passed behind trees, the reporter woke the mother and both watched its figure through trees in a ditch by the road. They described it as playing with a can or object lying by the road.
