Four young men camped on a companion's land and heard approaching grunts, heavy footsteps and foul odor across a creek at dusk. After a rock was thrown toward the unseen sounds, something shrieked, circled the camp and emitted a loud high-pitched scream, prompting them to leave and later return with a parent. The primary witness heard noises again overnight, and the next morning the group found large footprints, hair and a bedding area before the primary witness briefly saw a tall hair-covered upright creature that looked at him and ran away.

The witness was driving away from a private lake late at night when a small hairy biped ran across the road into the front of the car. The impact caused major front-end damage and left fur and blood, and the witness heard a thud as the animal hit the pavement. While slowing, the witness heard a loud roar from the treeline and later heard crashing and growling alongside the road while driving around the lake, feeling chased.

A solo backpacker camped overnight at the Mud Springs hunter camp. Around 10:30 p.m. he was awakened by a loud branch snap followed by heavy vibrating footsteps passing very close to his tent. His nested cook pots were then heard clanging and later found unnested and spread out. After finding a long hair on his backpack Velcro he broke camp and drove to Red Bluff.
Large bipedal animal frequently observed by a South Dakota family
A family reports seeing an unidentified tall biped around their rural home over four years, usually at night. The creature is described as 7 to 9 feet tall, walking upright with a slight hunch and running too fast to follow. Footprints, hair, possible saliva, blood stains, and snapped small trees were also found on the property. Up to nine family members in three houses have seen it when arriving, leaving, or moving between houses.

In November 1997 the witness looked from an upstairs window and saw two gray upright figures at the woods edge about 100 yards behind the house. He watched for about ten seconds while they stood side by side swaying, then ran downstairs and outside but they were gone. On July 16, 1997, a tour guide driving tourists along a road stopped near a burned-out bridge and watched an upright, hair-covered creature for about 15 minutes from 70 to 80 yards away. The guide moved the bus forward and backward to give passengers views and tried to get a passenger with a telephoto lens to exit for photos, but no one would leave. The guide then drove away and could not relocate the creature on a later return.

The sounds stopped after deep hooted calls and later receded to distant screams up the valley and across the mountain. Later, while in a tent, the witness saw the firelight blocked by a squatting silhouette that touched the zipper with five digits, with felt breath and strong odor, before withdrawing. In the morning the witness noted hairs and deep depressions on the trail.

They heard something moving toward them and fled to a moonlit clearing where they saw a bipedal creature they first called a bear. The witness fired a shotgun into the air without stopping its approach, then both ran through a creek to a store to call for help. In later years they found broken trees and footprints they attributed to the same creature.

One looked back while crossing a fence and saw a large hairy stocky creature chasing them, then they reached the house where it threw objects and damaged trash cans, fencing and a window, with a strong odor noted.

As they circled back, an unseen animal tracked them, producing a strong foul odor and a high-pitched squeal before thrashing off toward the mother waiting at the truck. They later found uprooted small trees, additional tracks in camp, hair on fencing, and a woody debris structure, and heard screaming and a howl that prompted a relative to leave camp.

They followed faint sign a short distance, covered the clearest prints to protect them, and later returned to make plaster casts and photograph stride. The prints were measured at 18 inches long, and hair was collected from vegetation in a nearby ravine.

The witness was deer hunting with companions and stopped to rest on a hill. A black entity about the witness's height ran very fast down the hill about 50 yards away and disappeared in about five seconds, with breaking deadfall heard as it left. The witness was startled, thought it might have been watching, and later wondered if it was a large bear or loose livestock.

A homeowner had shot a deer and hung it in a tree behind the house. That night while going to let dogs out, he heard an unfamiliar scream and saw a large ape-like creature in the yard. The creature seized the deer and fled into the forest, tearing out a stretch of barbed-wire fence and leaving hair and tracks. A friend visiting the next day was shown where it stood and ran, including the tracks and hair.
