Sasquatch sighting in Kentucky (1980)
In 1980 two men claiming to be Smithsonian field agents visited the grandmother's farm for two days after magazine coverage. They toured the garden and orchard, noted twisted limbs, cast footprints and a supposed sitting impression, collected hair and produce, and recorded audio. At night the family showed them figures with a spotlight, with up to three seen, and the visitors played a scream recording that was followed by distant chatter.
Several sightings reported.
The reporter's father was squirrel hunting in deep cover near Patoka Lake when he noticed what looked like legs across a slough by a tree. The figure left on two feet and headed toward the lake after appearing to notice it was observed. The father hurried out and said nothing until he was miles away, then advised returning only with a larger-caliber rifle.

A forest ranger and his partner were driving fast in a large truck while looking for animals hurt by fire. Something stepped onto the road and they hit it, initially thinking it was a small bear but then realizing it was not. Officials later took the body and warned them to say they hit a bear.
