The guest and his wife were staying at a leased cabin near Octavia and walking by a lake around sunset when they heard loud screaming or hollering from the river bottoms about a half-mile to a mile away. He recorded the sounds on a small Kodak camera, turning it on and off several times. Locals later told him there were no elk or moose in the area, only black bear and mountain lions.

After two researchers visited, played guitar, and threw rocks, a recorder left in the guest-house garage window captured about 30 minutes of baby-like crying, moaning, and hitting that sounded like pinging on glass. The crying recurred sporadically for nearly a week. The witness ruled out a human infant due to January cold and midnight timing.
