Husband and wife harassed by unseen creatures at their camp late at night

A couple camped overnight by a stream about three miles from the road. After dark they smelled a strong stench and heard grunting, hooting and stomping that seemed to surround their tent, but saw nothing when checking with a flashlight. They ran back to the road in the dark and found scuffle marks in the dirt when they returned in the morning.
