The witness and a companion camped for two nights beside a lake in pine forest. On both nights they exchanged wood knocks with unseen sources and heard a whoop, and something large walked past their tent. On the second night they watched red eyes near camp, then heard a very close loud grunt and packed up and left feeling unwelcome.
Daytime sighting by a hunter visiting his bait station near the town of Virginia
The witness drove to a bear bait station in the early morning and paused at a trail fork. A large gray-white creature crossed the trail about 50-60 yards away and continued through brush toward the bait site, with loud bipedal footsteps heard for several seconds. The witness left immediately and later returned with a companion only to retrieve a posted sign.
Daylight sighting while scouting hunting locations near Skibo
The witness and a companion were on foot scouting hunting ground in daylight when the witness noticed a large reddish-brown figure moving in the timber nearby. The witness saw only from the mid-shoulders up for a few seconds before turning toward the companion and looking back to find it gone. The companion did not see the figure but heard movement and footfalls, and a strong musky odor was noticed as the figure moved away.

The witness and a companion were camping in a tent when the witness heard loud, heavy bipedal footsteps approaching around 4 a.m. After the witness shouted, something threw a rock at the tent and then walked rapidly away with the same loud steps. The companion heard the rock strike the tent. In the morning the witness could not reproduce the loudness of the steps.
Hunter's sighting near gravel pits outside Floodwood
The witness was deer hunting from an elevated stand in late afternoon when branches began breaking as something approached. A tall, thick, long-haired biped stopped about 30 yards away for several seconds, gave a very loud howl, then rapidly retreated through thick swamp while breaking vegetation and howled again while moving away to the southwest. The frightened witness ran to the car and later said the experience ended his hunting in that area.
Airman recalls diverse encounters on excursion into Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness
The witness and three companions were on a canoe-camping trip in the Boundary Waters. While visiting a creek waterfall alone, the witness heard circling footsteps and loud wood-on-tree knocks, then returned to camp. The group returned together, heard knocks nearby, and one companion briefly chased the sound before feeling lured away. That night they heard a loud splash near their island camp, and at dawn found a very large wet footprint by their canoes before leaving the area.
Several incidents experienced by father and son outside St. Louis
The witness's father was bowhunting and walking back from a deer stand in 1976 when he saw a very tall, large figure standing across a small wheat field. He whistled twice thinking it was another hunter but received no response and concluded it was not a man. He retreated toward the house via a dried slough while hearing limbs popping behind him that stopped when he stopped and resumed when he moved.
