Campers hear vocalizations and find possible prints near Skookum Meadow
Three coworkers camped at Tillicum campsite and hiked toward Skookum Meadow looking for signs. On the first night while awake in the tent they heard coyote-like sounds, a long moan and loud wail, and a guttural growl. The next day on a deer trail off Trail 21 they noticed several vague human-like footprints in firm ground but took no casts or photos. Weeks later the reporter felt the night sounds matched supposed vocalizations heard on a television special.
Creature seen by witnesses at the bottom of the hill
The witness and a companion were elk hunting from a ridge when they heard soft murmuring voices they took for approaching hunters. They then heard heavy thumps retreating down the brushy ridge and briefly saw a big black object moving fast into the trees on the flat below. Both initially considered a black bear but later felt that explanation did not fit the vocal sounds and movement.

The witness was fishing near Goose Lake by Trout Lake and took shelter in his tent during a noon thunderstorm. He heard one loud, powerful vocalization estimated 50 to 100 yards away that echoed down the canyon and felt in his chest. After the rain stopped he smelled a wet-dog and urine-like odor for about an hour.
Hiking couple hears calls and finds footprints near Mt. Adams
In late fall 1997 the witness and her husband were camping in the Mt Adams Wilderness Area when around 4 a.m. they heard a loud strange vocalization from 800 to 1000 meters away. The sound combined roaring, warbling and guttural yodeling with a high-pitched scream element and was repeated four or five times before all went quiet. Neither witness saw an animal.
