Campers describe sounds, rock throwing and brief sighting at dark near Wind River Work Center outside Carson
Four campers spending the night near a creek reported hearing aggressive vocalizations described as a mix of whoops and screams, then seeing the silhouette of a very tall figure with a wide torso about fifteen feet away. They retreated to their truck before setting up camp, and later that night heard a deep whistle, crunching footsteps, pebbles hitting tents, and a branch breaking, along with a foul odor while a small dog growled. By morning a chair was found knocked over, but no tracks were located on the rocky ground.

In April 2013 the guest took his teenage son camping at a just-opened campground off Highway 14 along the Columbia River. During a daytime walk they found an old large track, opened clam shells out of place, a fresh vine-maple twist tucked behind a fir, an 18-inch footprint beneath it, and several pushed or tossed trees. That night in camp they heard branch-breaking, felt the tarps pulled, heard splashing, felt vibration waves, and heard two wood knocks before leaving exhausted in the morning.

Five people were camping near a river when they heard heavy, slow movement in nearby brush shortly after starting to cook. The brush noise was heard twice and stopped when approached. Later around 11 p.m. while sitting around the fire they heard brief distant screaming that they felt was not directed at them and may have been communication between distant animals.
Campers Awaken to Unknown Vocalizations, Brush Popping and Foul Odor
About 2 a.m., dozens of campers were awakened by loud prolonged screams from the woods east of the campground. Six campers entered the woods with flashlights toward the sound about 200-300 ft from the perimeter, smelled a foul odor and heard loud brush movement and wood cracking, then retreated. The screams lasted 20-25 minutes total, fading to the east with a similar sound from the south, followed by coyotes howling.

The witness was camped with a companion, a child relative and a dog at a campground. During a daytime hike the dog became reluctant to continue and stayed close, and the witness noticed rustling in brush. Late that night the dog barked and dug frantically at the closed tent door, then after voices inside the tent heavy two-footed footsteps were heard running away.
