Campers describe loud branch snap, howls, and possible track, northeast of Cougar
The witness and a relative camped overnight beside a creek after scouting the area for hunting. Around 10 p.m. a loud nearby branch break woke them, but a flashlight search revealed nothing. An hour later distant howls woke them again, with further responses heard after the witness howled back, and footsteps were later heard near the tent. Next morning a single large deep footprint was found near the tent and photographed.

The guest and his teenage son camped in an empty riverside campground and found opened clam shells, a fresh twist-broken vine maple, and large human-like tracks. That night after midnight the guest heard heavy movement, felt something pull the tarps over their tent, and triggered his vehicle alarm. He stayed awake hearing movement and splashing and a knock, and his son said he did not want to stay again.
Tracks near Skamania County (2013)
In April 2013 the guest took his teenage son camping at a just-opened campground off Highway 14 along the Columbia River. During a daytime walk they found an old large track, opened clam shells out of place, a fresh vine-maple twist tucked behind a fir, an 18-inch footprint beneath it, and several pushed or tossed trees. That night in camp they heard branch-breaking, felt the tarps pulled, heard splashing, felt vibration waves, and heard two wood knocks before leaving exhausted in the morning.
Large bridge found crossing creekbed
Three companions hiked several miles into old-growth forest at the base of Mt. St. Helens in midday snow conditions. They reported finding twisted trees, saplings torn down and woven over a creek, and numerous large bare footprints in snow. The largest print was taped at 21 inches and dwarfed the witness's boot, but attempted photos failed due to snow glare.
