After limb-snapping and a deep primate-like call, something approached the tent at night, growled in front and then circled it with light footsteps on pine needles. At daylight they found a large footprint-like impression inches behind the tent where one companion's head had been.

During a winter night investigation with two companions, the group heard a distant call and later a very close growl near their trucks after dousing the fire. The guest growled back and the unseen animal exchanged escalating growls and a scream about seven or eight times. The sound then faded as if leaving, and the group left.
