High-pitched growling scream heard by witnesses.
Two people were walking uphill on a rural road around 2 a.m. when they heard a strange loud scream from the wooded valley below. The sound occurred again about 20-30 seconds later, lasting longer and sounding much closer. They ran uphill to the companion's home.

Incident near a horse corral in the mountains of eastern Kentucky, 10 miles north of Hazard.
The witness was staying with relatives in a secluded hollow and watching television late at night when a pony in a nearby corral became agitated. The witness and a cousin went outside and saw a very tall, broad creature moving away from the corral, stepping over a fence and fleeing across a road and creek up a hillside, seeing only its back. The next morning they found only a dirt slide where it had climbed, and learned a relative's chained dog nearby had disappeared that night.
