Possible howls heard 4 miles north of Rochford in middle of Black Hills
The witness was staying alone at cottages beside fields edging forest and sitting outside in the evening. A loud sound described as between a howl and a scream came from the woods to the west and lasted 3-5 minutes. All farm animals reportedly froze and turned toward the sound, which the witness did not recognize from growing up in the area.
Unusual howls recorded in the Black Hills southwest of Rapid City
The witness returned home in the evening and heard an unfamiliar ululating howling sound with an echo off a nearby cliff. The witness recorded about 4.5 minutes of the sound. With decades of outdoor experience, the witness did not recognize it as any known local animal and noted dogs reacted negatively.
Early evening sighting by motorist on Hwy 244 near Horsethief Lake
The witness was driving westbound home on Highway 244 when he saw a large, reddish-brown hairy figure standing a few feet off the side of the road. He viewed it in left-side profile for only two to three seconds as he passed, noting its tall lean build, long arms, slouched posture, and thigh hair. When he checked the rear mirror it was gone, and a return visit the next day found only a well-used trail.
