Cave explorers recall bizarre experiences while camping in the Seneca Creek Backcountry
Seven cavers camped on a remote ridge in the Monongahela National Forest after a day of ridgewalking. Around 10:30 p.m., while sitting around a dim campfire, they heard a single loud rising scream lasting several seconds from across a ravine about 200 yards away. The group discussed the sound, with some suggesting an owl, heard nothing further, and hiked out the next morning without visiting the area the sound came from.
