Hunting party loses bagged deer to unknown predator.

During an evening hunt the witness and a relative followed the blood trail of a wounded deer. The trail grew faint and straight over obstacles, leading them to infer the deer was being carried. From across a clearing they heard an extremely loud roaring howl, answering growls and whoop-like replies, plus heavy footsteps on a fire lane mistaken for the witness. They never saw the source and later searches found no carcass or sign.
