Possible intimidation in the Pine Barrens
The witness visited a pine forest site three times in the early morning. On the first visit he heard heavy footsteps retreating, smelled a skunk-like odor, and saw a rock thrown into water. On later visits he heard loud repeated calls and low moans, heard footsteps approach to within about 15 feet without seeing the source, had a large stick thrown near him, left food and recorded vocalizations, and noted indistinct footprints and large broken trees.

Man recalls sighting as a youth, near Bass River State Forest
Two scouts walking on a gravel road in a pine forest at night smelled a foul odor and heard gravel being disturbed. They then saw a large, hairy silhouette run across the road and fled back to camp. When they told their scout leader, he laughed and sent them to bed.
