The witness and a relative were camped in a tent by a small lake after backpacking and scouting for elk. Around 4 a.m. the witness awoke to branches breaking about 50 yards away followed by an extremely loud scream/howl he said he had never heard before. After a few minutes he heard more branches breaking, then nothing further. Frightened, he packed up and left with the relative about half an hour later.

The witness reports repeated encounters over three to four months near the family home involving a large bipedal animal that is not a bear and has a very strong bad odor. He described jet-black wet hair hanging over its face, a chimp-like nose and mouth, and large limbs, estimating it was the size of a large man.

A large black figure stood up about 15 feet away on a steep downhill slope, showed agitated movements and cheek puffing, muttered and then screamed before leaving over a stump downhill. About an hour later the witness returned with two companions and all three heard pounding on trees and mumbled vocalizations before leaving.

On the return they heard sounds suggesting something was following them, and the women in camp reported rocks being thrown near camp and brush moving. After going to bed the group heard a loud screech/scream twice, and before sunrise one woman was awakened by a close growl near the tent. No creature was seen.

A tall hair-covered bipedal figure emerged from the right side and crossed the road in two strides into dense timber. The witness went outside and imitated the calls, and the source answered several times while apparently approaching to the edge of the yard. The witness could not see the source through the trees and went back inside feeling uncomfortable. Their three dogs remained tense and silent throughout the vocalizations.

A group of girls on a summer-camp hike entered a swamp-like area where they heard twigs snap, smelled a foul odor, and saw a dark hairy bipedal creature moving among trees. The creature paused and looked toward them after one girl screamed, and the group fled. A counselor later told them it was a bear, which the witness doubted because it walked on two legs and was in a swamp.
