The witness and a companion stopped while hiking and watched a reddish primate-like figure peeking from behind trees and brush about 100 feet away. The figure watched them for several minutes, moved away, then reappeared to peek briefly several more times over about 15 minutes. During the encounter they also heard movement in ravines on either side.

While hunting deer from a tree stand in the afternoon, the witness noticed movement in a large tree about sixty yards away. He watched for about six seconds a dark, chimpanzee-like primate about three to four feet tall standing erect on a branch. The animal appeared to look toward him before turning and disappearing into foliage; its feet and lower legs were not visible.

The witness was fishing downstream from family members when he briefly saw the lower legs of a dark figure stepping from the creek onto the bank and into dense brush. He searched the spot and found wet marks on rocks, disturbed soil, and dung, which companions helped videotape. He concluded the figure was unlikely to be human given the remote, rugged terrain.

On a clear cold night in fall 1971, a group of students gathered at a party spot on Green Hill Road claimed a large hairy creature grabbed one member who had stepped into the woods. Another member reported seeing the animal standing about 20 feet away in a spotlight, prompting the group to flee into town. Later that night a larger group with law officers returned to search the woods but reported seeing nothing, and officers warned them to leave.
