Deer hunter reports loud wood knocks where PCT passes Hyatt Lake
While deer hunting near Hyatt Lake, the witness heard a large object crash through the woods moving away. Shortly after stopping, the witness heard tree knocks from the same direction, then heard additional knocks behind while walking back to a truck on the main road. Despite aiming a rifle scope toward the sounds from under 100 yards away, the witness saw nothing and was frightened.

The witness was tent-camping overnight when awakened late at night by an animal believed to be an elk running nearby. About two minutes later the witness heard repeated sets of three wood-on-wood knocks that seemed to originate farther away each time over several minutes. The witness perceived the source as moving unusually fast through dense regrowth in darkness and left the site uneasily in the morning.

The witness was deer hunting alone from an elevated stand at dusk when deer behaved nervously. A large unseen animal approached behind the stand, breathing heavily, sniffing, producing knocks and screams, and pacing before moving west. The witness turned on a headlamp and saw a tall dark figure from behind that grunted and ran along a creek bank into the woods.
